Sherain Harricharan is a PhD Candidate in Clinical Psychology at McMaster University under the supervision of Dr. Margaret McKinnon. She has experience treating individuals with anxiety and related concerns, mood disorders, trauma, emotion regulation difficulties, as well as those experiencing psychosis-related concerns through the Anxiety Treatment and Research Clinic and The Cleghorn Early Intervention Clinic at St. Joseph’s Healthcare Hamilton. Sherain is trained in administering cognitive behavioural therapy and uses a compassionate approach to foster a safe and supportive environment for clients.
Sherain’s area of research focuses on post-traumatic stress disorder and trauma-related dissociation, where she uses neuroimaging to learn about brain pathways affected by trauma. She currently holds a doctoral degree in Neuroscience from Western University and graduated in 2019. Currently, Sherain is pursuing another doctoral degree in Clinical Psychology to help apply this knowledge in a clinical setting, studying how sensory awareness can augment mindfulness techniques used to treat trauma.
