Dr. Stead is a registered Clinical Psychologist. She completed her Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology at McMaster University in 2021, and her residency at the Royal Ottawa Mental Health Centre in the Transitional Age Youth Service of the Substance Use and Concurrent Disorders Program, the Youth Outpatient Program, and the Community Mental Health Program. Dr. Stead specializes in the treatment of co-occurring substance use and mental health disorders, emotion dysregulation, trauma, and anxiety disorders. Dr. Stead is also a staff psychologist with the Concurrent Disorders Outpatient Programs at St. Joseph’s Healthcare Hamilton.
Dr. Stead’s doctoral research examined possible biological and social factors that might help better identify adolescents with and those at risk of developing borderline personality disorder (BPD). Over the course of her doctoral studies, she completed specialized training in the treatment of anxiety, BPD, obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD), post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), substance use, and suicidality. Dr. Stead is still involved in ongoing research programs and continues to present her research at national and international conferences.
Dr. Stead primarily works with adolescents and young adults experiencing a range of conditions and symptoms and has a particular interest in working with individuals experiencing difficulties with emotion dysregulation, OCD, trauma and substance use. She takes a client-centred approach to her practice and has been trained in several evidence-based approaches, including cognitive-behaviour therapy, dialectical behaviour therapy, harm reduction and interpersonal psychotherapy.
